On Sunday afternoon, the New York Rangers took on their division rivals, the New Jersey Devils, for their first preseason game, and now their top prospect Brennan Othmann faces a potential suspension after levelling Devils defenseman Calen Addison and receiving five-minute major and a game misconduct.
Entering the 2025-26 season, Brennan Othmann has made it clear that he needs to prove himself to the Rangers organization, and unfortunately he tried to make a physical presence on the ice by laying a heavy hit but ended up catching Calen Addison up high.

Brennan Othmann To Be Suspended Following Nasty Hit?

After watching the video it's clear that Othmann's elbow came up on the follow through, which could persuade the NHL Department of Player Safety in making their decision on a possible suspension.
Along with that the on-ice officials gave Othmann a five-minute major as well as a game misconduct for his hit on Addison. With that being said, even Mollie Walker of the New York Post believes this could land Othmann a suspension.

To make the situation worse, Addison was forced to leave the game after he headed to the locker room to get looked over by medical professionals. As of right now no reports have surfaced on whether or not the 25-year old defenseman has sustained an injury or not.
Certainly not the way Othmann wanted his first preseason game to go, as he had high expectations on making the New York Rangers opening-night roster, but now may have ruined his chance if he does receive a suspension.
