New York Rangers Elite Goaltenders Unexpected Drop In Latest NHL Ranking Sparks Heated Debate Among Fans

While Igor Shesterkin is #1 in Madison Square Garden, and our hearts as Rangers fans, the NHL Network thinks otherwise. The Vezina Trophy-winning goalie was snubbed this year, as he dropped two ranks in their player ranking.Igor Shesterkin

The New York Rangers have an elite goalie in Igor Shesterkin. They pay him more than Carey Price, with an $11.5 million deal, which secures his services for the next eight years.
While we did see a small drop-off from Shesterkin, the NHL Network decided it was a failure of a year for him. They would demote him from #1 on their list after the 2023-24 season, a Presidents' Trophy year, to #3 now.
Which is ironic, because in the last two seasons, there hasn't been a night that the Rangers haven't been carried by his herculean efforts on the ice, and fans are making their opinions clear.

Last season, he'd finish the year with a 2.86 GAA and a .905 SV%.
Not elite numbers, but the team in front of him wasn't elite either. Yet after a 5th place finish, and a weak blueline in front of him, he still managed to post above .900.
If anything, this list is a joke.

Igor Shesterkin's 2023-24: Painting A Bad Picture

Like any NHL team that has won the President's Trophy, their futures have been marked by catastrophe soon after (this excludes the Blackhawks). Shesterkin and the team would experience a decline in production.
The goalie isn't a one-man team, and it's obvious how well he played this season despite the lack of support.
In 2023-24, it marked a turn of events for the front office which thought they had a legitimate cup contender, until the Florida Panthers happened.
Can Shesterkin and the Rangers emerge from 2025-26 in a better light?
