Ryan Sutter celebrated his latest birthday with a shocking haircut transformation.

The Bachelorette and former NFL player turned 51 on Sept. 14 and later revealed on Instagram that he rang in his new age by shaving off his hair as a way to deal with his hair loss.

"Got tired of slowly watching my hair fall out so I cut it all off. Then promptly ensured I preserved the day and the experience by immediately taking new passport photos," he captioned an Instagram photo that showed off his buzz cut.

While he admitted that memorializing the moment might've been an "over reaction," he noted that his decision was "a simple reaction to a life that was feeling too complex" in which he was "losing my sense of self, identity, authenticity and joy."

He continued: "It really shouldn’t be this hard to feel joy or to feel sorrow without condition - for ourselves and one another. It really shouldn’t be that hard to be helpful, useful and supportive. To be kind."

Sutter went on to say that "we will never agree with everyone or convince everyone to agree with us. That’s a good thing." He added, "Hair or none, we’re in this together. Let’s maybe act like it?"

In the comment section, the dad of two received compliments on his changed appearance as well as birthday wishes. "You’re still the most handsome man ever," one person wrote. "This is wisdom, maturity and realizing what really matters in this precious life," another added.

Prior to his drastic hair transformation, Sutter embraced his graying roots and a long crew cut. When he made his television debut in 2003 on The Bachelorette, during which he would marry leading star Trista Sutter (they celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary last December), he was known for a shaggy brunette photo with bangs. He later rocked a hairdo close to a buzz cut, but his current look appears to be his shortest yet.

While the two have been married for over two decades, Sutter has been known to post cryptic posts on social media in recent years. In May 2024, he shared a lengthy response to a Mother’s Day Instagram post about missing Trista, who was filming Special Forces at the time.

“It was suggested that Trista had died, we were in trouble or that it must be a mid life crisis among many other creative ideas. Some thought I was intentionally misleading people in order to somehow benefit from it?" he wrote. “It got picked up on entertainment news sites and I started getting texts from friends asking if I was ok. All because I missed my wife and chose to share how that felt.”

He also wrote, “I strayed from the safety of the usual dog theme and chose to post a message to my wife for a time when she could eventually read it,” adding. “She understood the context and so did I. No one else did, however, and that’s where things went sideways.”
