Following the New York Rangers training camp on Thursday, veteran forward J.T. Miller meet with the media and opened up on being named the 29th captain in franchise history.
Miller quickly went on to say he was super grateful for being given the opportunity to be named as captain of the New York Rangers, along with making it clear that he knows what it takes and means to the captain of the Rangers.
Here's what he had said:
"It's been a special couple days for my family, for sure. It was ingrained in me at a young age what it means to be a captain around here, and I'm just super thankful and lucky to represent the group like that.'' Miller said. "I just don't want to overthink it. I want to be me. I've been given a lot of good advice from Mike and Chris in the last little bit here about, 'We want you to be yourself.' And for me, that means a lot...''
Miller than continued, "I've had a lot of great captains... the guys I had here first, Mac and Cally. I'm still very close with those guys. I just tried to be a sponge as a young guy around those guys... Absolute warriors of the game. Not exactly rah rah, but once they speak up, it's time to listen."

New York Rangers Stand Behind J.T. Miller Being Named Captain
It's clear that the New York Rangers and the players have their new captains back, as every player who was spoken to had nothing but positive thing about Miller being named captain, from prospects to veterans they all believe it was the right move.
Millers good friend Vincent Trocheck, who was a close second on being named captain, spoke out on why Miller was the right choice:
"He brings a level of intensity to the game that brings people into the fight a little bit, so having him back there to kind of lead our group is going to be good."
Along with prospect Brennan Othmann:
"J.T. is the type of player I look up to...he leads by example. Every single team in the NHL would want a guy like J.T. on his team."
Certainly a group of players who stand behind the idea of Miller becoming the next captain.
