A new trade proposal has just emerged from Heavy.com, involving the New York Rangers acquiring two-time Stanley Cup champion in a crazy one-for-one trade with the Nashville Predators.![Steven Stamkos]()
The New York Rangers have had a pretty quiet offseason thus far, as President and General Manager Chris Drury only significant moves were acquiring Vadislav Gavrikov, and trading away defenseman K'Andre Miller to their divisional rivals, the Carolina Hurricanes.
With that being said, the New York Rangers could certainly be looking to add more scoring depth to offensive lineups. Which turns us to to this proposed trade idea, that sees the organization landing former 60-goal scorer, Steven Stamkos.
New York Rangers Will Have To Pay A Hefty Price To Land Steven Stamkos
Steven Stamkos was heavily involved in rumors during the 2024 offseason, before he ultimately departed from the Tampa Bay Lightning and signed with the Nashville Predators in free agency. Unfortunately, Nashville doesn't seem like the right spot for him as his numbers were below expectations throughout the 2024-25 season.
However, maybe a change of scenery could be what the 35-year old forward needs to return to his former 30+ goal scoring, and the New York Rangers could just be that change of scenery, but it comes at a hefty price as they would need to give up their former first overall draft pick Alexis Lafreniere.
Here's what the proposed trade would look like, according to Nestor Quixtan on Heavy.com:
Rangers get:
Steven Stamkos, F
Predators get:
Alexis Lafreniere, F

Predators get:
Alexis Lafreniere, F
The proposed trade involves Alexis Lafrreniere being trading to Nashville, mainly as a way to clear some cap space, as the New York Rangers only have $777,976 in cap space according to PuckPedia.
Alexis lafreniere, is currently signed to a 7 year, $52,150,000 contract with a cap hit of $7,450,000 per season, so clearing his cap could help the New York Rangers secure Stamkos.
