Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett could demand a trade, again.
Myles Garrett voiced his frustration following a 41-17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, sparking chatter that the Cleveland Browns star pass-rusher could demand a trade.
Garrett had a standoff with the Browns this offseason, publicly demanding a trade and speaking candidly about what he wants, which is to compete for a championship.
“It’s not a decision I take lightly,” Garrett said during Super Bowl week last year. “It took time and lots of conversation. Just looking at the trajectory of the team, talking to some of the higher-ups, I have a lot of respect for them, but I just don’t think we’re aligned on where the team is going in the near future.”
The Browns and Garrett eventually agreed to a four-year extension worth $160 million, which briefly made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. But with the Browns sitting at 0-2 and coming off a blowout loss, Garrett may be regretting his decision.
“I mean, this s— is embarrassing,” Garrett said after the loss to the Ravens. “And we’ve got to be better on defense, we’ve got to be better as a team.
“They slowly chipped away. We did a solid job holding it to three when we could. And then eventually the dam broke and then they just did whatever they wanted, and we have to continue to play a 60-minute game.”
Grossi: ‘Fact’ That Myles Garrett Could Demand Another Trade
Longtime Browns reporter Tony Grossi was asked whether Myles Garrett could push for another trade, with Cleveland looking more like a contender for the No. 1 overall pick than a playoff berth. He dubbed it more fact than fiction.
“Based on his flip-flopping, I’d say fact. The frustration is already showing. He’s playing his best football and it’s not having an impact,” Grossi said. “He wants to be in the spotlight of the Super Bowl, standing on that big podium surrounded by thousands of reporters on media day. He’s not going to get that in Cleveland.”
Garrett has been downright dominant in the first two games. Despite being double or even triple-teamed on most plays, Garrett has posted 3.5 sacks and six tackles for loss. However, Cleveland has lost eight straight games dating back to last season.
“I’m not really focused on last season,” Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said on Monday when asked what he can do to keep veterans like Garrett on board. “We obviously have come up short in these first two ball games, and we’ll just keep our head down and get back to work. That’s really what we’ll do.”
Browns Star Myles Garrett Dealing With Injury
The Browns can’t afford to be without Garrett for any period of time, but the star pass-rusher is dealing with an Achilles injury he suffered during Sunday’s loss.
“I got rolled up on, not intentional. Bit of a high low and clipped my Achilles a bit. Doing alright,” Garrett said.
Stefanski declined to give a firm update on Garrett on Monday when asked if the star pass-rusher was doing OK.
“I think a lot of guys are dealing with some things,” Stefanski said. “But we’ll just see how they do throughout the week.”
