Brittany Cartwright reveals the surprising reason why she's still living with Jax Taylor! 😲 - lulu

Brittany Cartwright revealed she has no plans to move out of the Valley Village home she once shared with her ex, Jax Taylor.

In August 2025, “The Valley” star spoke out on her “When Reality Hits” podcast more than a year after filing for divorce from Taylor. Cartwright revealed she does not want to move her 4-year-old son, Cruz, out of his familiar surroundings.

“I am staying,” Cartwright said of the house. “She is mine. One hundred percent, this is my home. Still figuring out a lot of stuff with Jax’s stuff, but hopefully whenever our divorce is finalized, that will be all taken care of. But I am staying here. I do not want to move Cruz.”

In April, Cartwright confirmed that her son was diagnosed with autism.

Brittany Cartwright Plans to Give Her House a Refresh

Taylor and Cartwright purchased the farmhouse-style home for $1.9 million in 2019, per HGTV Canada. At one time, the garage was converted into a “man cave” for Taylor. But all traces of the former SUR bartender are now gone as Cartwright makes the place her own.

“I love this house so much,” Cartwright told her podcast listeners. “I’m definitely refreshing the house, though. I’m going to redo a lot of the rooms. I’ve already redone landscaping. I’ve already like redone little things here or there. But this is just my place, and Cruz is so comfortable here. I have his pool, his swing set, his sensory room. He’s very happy here, and I am very happy here.”

Cartwright acknowledged that some people may think it’s “weird” that she is choosing to stay in the home that she bought with her ex-husband or that it will hold too many memories.

“It’s not like that,” she said. “There is no, you couldn’t even tell that my ex ever lived here, we’ll just say that. No photos, no nothing. And I’m going to do a whole refresher. I’m going to redo my patio furniture soon, I’m going to redo my front living room, dining area, make it look completely different. Just really start putting my own spin on things and I’m really excited about that.”

Brittany Cartwright Said She Shouldn’t Have Temporarily Moved Out of the House

When Cartwright and Taylor first split in early 2024, she moved in and out of several Airbnbs with Cruz.

In an April 2025 interview with People magazine,  Cartwright said that Taylor should have been the one to move out from the beginning. “When you’re dealing with a child with autism, we shouldn’t be the ones moving around. That should have never happened,” she said.

Taylor has since apologized for how he handled his things with Cartwright and their son.

Cartwright ultimately moved back into the house and got rid of the man cave to make way for her large collection of holiday decor. She also swapped out the front door mat for one that says “The Cartwrights” instead of Taylor’s surname.

“This is my house,” the Bravo star said in April. “I’m proud of myself, that I could do it by myself.”
