‘Below Deck’ Officially Jumped the Shark With This Crew Member, Signaling a New Era of Chaos

The vibes of Below Deck have been different. With a social media-infused edit, it made sense why someone like Solène Favreau was cast with very little stewardess experience. Yet, after her uncalled-for comment towards Captain Kerry Titheradge and her inability to recall why she was wrong, Solène may go down as the worst stewardess in history and the poster child for why she should never be cast again.

With no regard for authority, believing that working on a luxury yacht is a vacation, and prioritizing locking lips, Solène, also known as Soso, has simply been a disaster. She is one who has been given more chances than most on Below Deck. The show has featured some very green yachties, but some have been willing to learn and grow, or, at the very least, have had some redeeming qualities. Not Solène. She’s an influencer and former Love Island alumna who somehow made it onto St. David to work. Although she has brought entertainment to the season, it has come at the expense of the show as a whole. Below Deck must stop the trend of green yachties before it completely strays from a glimpse into the industry and into mindless reality TV.

Solène Has No Respect For Captain Kerry's Authority on 'Below Deck'

 

Solène's Season 12 storyline has been grating, which has revolved around a poor work ethic and a desire to hook up with anyone and almost everyone on the boat. Last week, Chief Stew Fraser Olender thought he'd resolve the Solène situation by advising the crew to limit their interactions with her while working. The order got back to her and rather than addressing it in a professional manner, she believed it was Captain Kerry who told the crew to ignore her. She disrespectfully called him out in the crew mess, which should have led to a trip to the bridge for a warning. But it was also so hilariously inappropriate that no one knew how to seemingly respond. As Captain Kerry put it, "I don't think she quite understands how to talk to her superiors."

Now that Fraser has finished reprimanding her, Soso has one more charter to go. The fact that she's made it this far is truly shocking. Fraser claimed he wanted to give her one more chance, but the reality is, he wasn't going to let her go in the middle of charter number 8. She made it to the end without any massive consequences or repercussions, and she knew it. So rather than picking up her weight, she continued to underperform, instead focusing on Kyle Stillie and Damo Yorg, deciding who would be more fun to flirt with and make out with. While guests were aboard! At this point, Fraser is at fault for keeping her around. She’s become her own worst enemy. Perhaps she isn't meant for this world, but is used as an experiment of where Below Deck is heading.

Solène Is Busy Thinking About Play Instead of Work on 'Below Deck'

After the crew's night out, Solène made the following declaration: "I like Scottish, but I have a baby, baby crush on Damo." So what does she do? After the charter guests had arrived, she headed to the smoking corner on deck to flirt with Kyle. While he also seems to have checked out of the season, she was willing to put his job on the line to break more and work less. And yet, Bosun Hugo Ortega caught them, laughed, and snapped a photo. Then, before the Fire and Ice dinner, Soso continued to talk about her physical attraction to Kyle and her emotional draw toward Damo, as she kisses both crew members as they individually pass her in the crew mess.

Soso seemed to take her time on Below Deck and use it as a launching pad to further her reality television career. If she ends up on a Netflix Reality Universe show like Perfect Match, don't be surprised. Hook-ups are where she shines. She's molded for a show about love rather than one about work. Hookups on Below Deck are old hat, but she's made it her entire identity.
